VoIP information: phone service and inter-connection with the PSTN solved
 |

The blue area in the
figure represents the area surrounding
the VSAT terminal. It might be a small
community, commercial area, large
office, call centre or internet café.
A number of analogue phones or VoIP
phones are connected via Quintum
equipment to the VSAT modem.
Satellite dish "Site A" in the figure
is a representation of the VSAT
terminal, while "Site B" represents the
large Hub Teleport site where the calls
may go direct to other VoIP phones
connected to the internet or to
conventional PSTN telephones anywhere in
the world. |
|
Our clients
install VSAT hubs in order to have a direct connection to
the US Internet. With this Internet connection they have the
ability to install analog telephone lines connected to a
VoIP gateway.
If the client is a sub office of a large company, VoIP
provides them with free calls to their head office.
Depending upon their need they may have from one to 30 lines
in use at any one time. We call this on-net traffic
termination.
In most cases our clients wish place calls to people who do
not have similar VoIP systems. We can handle this process as
well!
We use a carrier grade telephone switch that has the ability
to convert the VoIP signal back into normal telephone calls
and place the call to the called party, anywhere in the
world. The call to our US switch is free but we do charge
for the second leg of the call, from our switch to its final
destination.
Consider the economies of someone in
Botswana, Africa calling by VoIP to a bank in the States or
Europe. The first leg of the call comes via VoIP through our
satellite to our switch for no charge. The second leg of the
call to Europe or the USA will incur a charge is 5 to 10
cents a minute. You could say that the total call from
Botswana to the US is only 5 to 10 cents a minute. By
comparison their local telecom is likely to charge the
Botswana client one dollar a minute. |
Quintum
VoIP equipment
The largest family of VoIP routers is the Cisco 5300 and
5350 series. The 5300 can be configured for 4 T1 or 4 E1
digital lines and are perfect for high volume digital
environments, such as telephone companies.
The majority of our clients operate Cyber Café’s with 8 to
16 analog telephone connected to a PABX. In this case the
Cisco product is unsuitable, instead we recommend the
Quintum Tenor A800 VoIP Gateway. Quintum will connect
directly to analog lines and the units are reliable and easy
to configure.
If the bandwidth is sized correctly the voice quality is
excellent using either Cisco or Quintum products.
An independent testing company evaluated the Quintum product
range and produced a favorable report. Contact us to
discuss your VoIP needs. |
